Max Journal

Max Journal recounts the exciting journey of a first-time attendee at Adobe MAX 2013.

Hi, my name is Jeremy Goldberg, Graphic Designer & Entrepreneur. It was both a pleasure and an honor to attend this year's Adobe MAX Conference as a Press Social Insider. Scroll down to experience MAX and all of the exciting new features coming soon in Creative Cloud.

Projects

Arguably, the most jaw-dropping news to come out of MAX this year was Adobe's announcement to enter the hardware game with three new projects codenamed Mighty, Napoleon, and Context. Project Mighty is a pressure sensitive digital pen that harnesses the Creative Cloud. Project Napoleon, a "short ruler", displays perfect shapes and lines on a tablet for easy and precise tracing. My favorite, Project Context, redefines a digital workflow by using giant screens to display and manipulate information, such as a magazine spread.

I had the rare pleasure to actually use these three new projects. They are simply stunning.

Photoshop CC

The new features in Photoshop CC are remarkable, especially if you're a photographer. One of the most useful features is "Camera Shake Reduction". Photoshop CC will intelligently correct pictures that are out of focus due to a slight shake in the camera. Best yet, this feature will eventually come to mobile devices too.

As a designer, my favorite new feature is precise control over rounded corners on shapes. Designers all over the world are cheering over that one. Photoshop CC also greatly improves Camera RAW, adds Sync Settings via the cloud, revamps Smart Sharpen, enables one-click sharing to Behance, and much more.

Illustrator CC

Typography enthusiasts get a lot of great upgrades in Illustrator CC. The standout feature is called "Touch Type", which allows characters to be manipulated like individual objects. Once again, Adobe is thinking towards the future and made this tool work for multi-touch devices.

In addition to Touch Type, Illustrator CC also adds Images in Brushes,  an improved Font Search, Typekit Fonts, CSS Extraction, Multiple File Placement, Performance Improvements, and more.

InDesign CC

I love watching how InDesign has evolved over the years. Now more than ever, digital publishing and cloud-enabled features are at the forefront of new innovations in InDesign CC. With faster performance, a shiny new UI, retina display support, and a bevy of font-related enhancements, InDesign CC has never been better. Also topping the list is an easy QR Code Creator and ePUB improvements.

Muse CC

As an Advisory Board Member for Muse, I was most excited to see the sneak peeks of what the team is working on in the labs. Noam, a Muse engineer, showed off additions to Parallax Scrolling, Code-free Color Transformations, 3D Motion and more. Thinking back on when I started using Muse in beta and seeing where  it is now, I'm convinced that the Muse team is the hardest working product team at Adobe.

In case you didn't know it, this entire website was built with Muse CC. I didn't write a single line of code.

Kuler CC

The Kuler CC demo at the Monday morning keynote was unexpected and very cool. Kuler CC seamlessly syncs color palettes with the Creative Cloud for easy access across Adobe applications and the web. But one of the most unique demos was the new iPhone Kuler App. The app utilizes the iPhone's camera to capture colors around you and automatically create color palettes. It was quite impressive and very fluid.

MAX Bash

I have to hand it to Adobe. They know how to throw a party! I had an amazing time at the carnival-like MAX Bash. It was set up with international food stations, trapeze artists, street dancers, creativity tents and more.

The main attraction though, was The Black Keys. I had never listened to or seen The Black Keys prior to this event, but I left impressed and a new fan. They played a generous set and rocked a bunch of tech nerds.

Thank you Adobe for giving me an unbelievable opportunity and unforgettable experience.
